OFSTED SUCCESS - MEPA Academy

MEPA Academy celebrates glowing September 2025 Ofsted report The publication of MEPA Academy’s September 2025 Ofsted report marks a proud moment in our school’s journey as a specialist performing arts secondary school in the heart of Maidstone Following a full inspection from 23–25 September 2025, Ofsted has once again judged MEPA Academy to be Good overall, with Outstanding judgements for both Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development, and Good for Quality of Education and Leadership and Management. Inspectors also confirmed that all independent school standards continue to be met. This outcome is far more than a set of grades. It is an external affirmation of the ethos that underpins MEPA: high expectations, genuine care, creative ambition and a deep belief in what young people can achieve when they are known, nurtured and challenged. A safe, ambitious and joyful place to learn Inspectors recognised a school where pupils are happy, feel safe and are proud to belong. They highlighted the “inclusive and welcoming” environment, the warmth of relationships between staff and pupils, and the culture of mutual respect that sits at the centre of academy life. The report pays particular tribute to our pupils’ exemplary conduct. Their Outstanding behaviour and attitudes are not accidental; they are the product of clear routines, strong role modelling and a shared understanding that professional standards in the studio go hand in hand with kindness, courtesy and responsibility in every space of the school. Our Outstanding judgement for Personal Development reflects the breadth of opportunity available to every MEPA student. Inspectors noted the extensive enrichment offer: daily training in dance, drama and music, additional classes after school, performances locally and internationally, charity work, community engagement and a rich programme of experiences that build confidence, resilience and character. Strong academics, professional training Crucially, Ofsted’s findings confirm that MEPA’s commitment to professional-level performing arts is matched by an ambitious and well-structured academic curriculum. Pupils benefit from carefully planned programmes in core and foundation subjects, taught by well-qualified staff and supported by visiting industry professionals who bring real-world expertise into the classroom and studio. Inspectors recognised that our teachers know pupils well, assess their starting points thoughtfully and respond quickly to individual needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. This balance—rigorous study alongside high-calibre vocational training—ensures that MEPA pupils are equipped not only for careers in the arts, but for success in whatever path they choose. A clear next step: sharpening assessment As a forward-looking school, we welcome Ofsted’s clear recommendation that assessment should be even more consistent and precise across all areas of the curriculum. Inspectors found many strong examples of effective feedback and responsive teaching, but noted that this best practice is not yet fully embedded everywhere. We embrace this as an important next step. Work is already underway to: • refine our whole-school assessment framework; • ensure misconceptions are identified and addressed swiftly in every subject; • give pupils sharper, more actionable next steps so they can push their learning even further. This focus on assessment is not about adding pressure; it is about ensuring every student, from our newest Year 7 to our most advanced performers, benefits from the same consistently high-quality guidance. Partnership, trust and gratitude This report is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the trust of our parents and carers, and the remarkable commitment of our pupils. It reflects a community that believes in high standards, creativity and kindness in equal measure. We are proud that Ofsted has recognised MEPA Academy as a Good school with Outstanding strengths at its core. We are prouder still that the report captures what makes this place unique: a small, specialist community where young people can thrive, feel safe, be themselves, and be stretched to meet professional expectations on stage and in the classroom. Our ambition does not stop here. Building from this strong endorsement, MEPA Academy will continue to refine its practice, deepen its provision and push for excellence in everything we do—so that every child who walks through our doors leaves not only as a skilled performer or confident scholar, but as a compassionate, responsible and resilient young adult, ready for the world.
